For example, if the flop comes A-8-5 and someone raises, you can pretty much assume that they are holding pocket fives.

One of the biggest mistakes even advanced poker players make is making automatic decisions. It is crucial to always think about how your decision affects the odds of winning a hand. For example, if you are holding a pair of aces and the board is AQ-KK, you need to bet big in order to win the hand. If you don’t, you will lose a lot of money and your chances of winning will be slim. Similarly, you should never be afraid to fold a hand. It is often the right and smart move to do so.
